The Boston Public Library Fund (BPLF) is proud to announce that Boston native and acclaimed cartoonist, Scott McCloud, will serve as Honorary Co-Chair for National Library Week, taking place April 6—12, 2025.
Celebrated annually and championed by the American Library Association (ALA), National Library Week is a time to recognize the transformative power of libraries and library workers, and to promote the essential role they play in strengthening communities through equitable access to knowledge, resources, and opportunity.
In honor of this celebration, the BPLF has launched a campaign to raise $100,000 in support of programming at the Central Library in Copley Square and all 25 branch locations. The initiative shines a spotlight on the Library's impact across Boston's neighborhoods and affirms its enduring commitment to education, creativity, and connection, free to all.
"This National Library Week, I encourage you to visit your local branch, consider how the Boston Public Library has made a difference in your own life or the lives of your friends and neighbors, and support through a gift to the Boston Public Library Fund," says McCloud.
With more than 2.2 million in-person visits annually across all locations—and millions more engaging online—the Boston Public Library plays an essential role in the civic and cultural life of the city. Its reach extends far beyond books: from the Kirstein Business Library & Innovation Center, where individuals receive career and résumé assistance, to the Roxbury Nutrition Lab, which promotes healthy living, to robust social services that address urgent issues like mental health and housing insecurity.
"This week, please join me in lifting up our Library and helping the Boston Public Library Fund reach its goal to raise $100,000," McCloud adds. "Your support will advance the BPLF's mission to unlock opportunity, activate democracy, and share treasures through the vital and innovative programming offered by your BPL!"
