BFSNA and neighborhood news and events

New recreational marijuana proposals. Two proposals for adult-use (recreational) marijuana retail stores in our BFSNA area have been put forward this month, as below. Each proposal is subject to the review and approval of the Boston Cannabis Board (BCB), and will entail a City-sponsored public meeting and outreach to neighborhood groups. BFSNA will be hosting meetings with proponents of both proposals later this month.

591 Albany Street. Affinity, the medical marijuana dispensary that opened three years ago (with the support of a majority vote of BFSNA), is seeking BCB approval to co-locate an adult-use license, which would allow them to sell to both medical marijuana patients and age 21-plus recreational customers at their 591 Albany Street location. Affinity believes this step is needed to put their dispensary—which, to date, is the only operational cannabis establishment in the South End—on an economically sustainable footing, given evolving conditions in the state's cannabis market. No change to the dispensary's physical layout or footprint is contemplated.

1679 Washington Street. Frozen 4 Corp is seeking BCB licensing to open an adult-use store at 1679 Washington Street (corner of Worcester Street), in the ground-floor commercial space formerly occupied by Andy's Cleaners. Frozen 4 currently operates a busy recreational dispensary in Marshfield and the team involved with this proposal also has licenses to cultivate and manufacture cannabis products at various locations in Massachusetts and is pursuing a Quincy-based cannabis delivery concept. The 1679 Washington Street property was recently acquired by the owner of Mike's City Diner, who would be the landlord for the proposed establishment.

Representatives from Frozen 4 will make a presentation and take questions and comments about their proposal for the former Andy's Cleaners at our regularly-scheduled BFSNA meeting on March 21st at 7 p.m. via Zoom.

Representatives from Affinity will discuss and take questions and comments about the proposal for their 591 Albany dispensary at a separate BFSNA meeting we expect to convene in or about the last week of March, exact date TBD.

Agendas and Zoom information for both meetings will be provided in advance via our email list and social media. All residents and interested persons are welcome to attend these meetings.

The City of Boston's official public meeting for the 591 Albany Street proposal is scheduled for March 27th. The City will be providing further details shortly. The official City public meeting for the 1679 Washington Street proposal has not yet been scheduled but will likely occur in late March or April.
