Free "Share the Harbor Cruises" to Spectacle Island

Wednesday Sep 12, 2018

Save the Harbor/Save the Bay will be hosting free "Share the Harbor Cruises" to Spectacle Island, Georges Island, and Boston Light for kids and families from across the city and around the region this fall. The first is a "Treasures of Spectacle Island" excursion on Saturday September 29th, featuring performing pirates, a treasure hunt and songs and stories of the sea.

Though these cruises are free and open to the public, reservations are required. Reserve your space today at https://tinyurl.com/sharetheharbor-9-29-18

On Spectacle Island Save the Harbor's staff will help visitors catch striped bass from the pier and identify the artifacts and beach glass they discover on Treasure Beach. Visitors can also hike to the top of the North Drumlin for unbeatable views of the Harbor, city skyline, and surrounding islands, or spend a relaxing day on the beach.

"Spectacle Island's history is as colorful as the sea glass you can find on Treasure Beach," said Chris Mancini, Vice President of Operations and Programs at Save the Harbor/Save the Bay. "However, we do want to remind treasure hunters that they need to leave the artifacts, pottery shards and sea glass they find on the island, for everyone to enjoy."

Save the Harbor's "Share the Harbor" cruises are funded in part by Mass Humanities, which receives support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and is an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
