    Street Cleaning

The City's Neighborhood Street Cleaning (Daytime) Program currently runs from April 1 through November 30. In winter months, street cleaning and parking restrictions are nighttime only. The daytime program parking restrictions are not in effect from December 1 through March 31, however, mechanical sweepers operate weather permitting.

Each street has as sign noting the specific day and time cleaning will take place. If your car is on the street during designated street sweeping it will be ticketed and towed.

You can find out when your street will be swept by visiting cityofboston.gov/publicworks/sweeping or by calling 311.

    Trash Collection & Recycling

Trash and Recycling: Collection on Tuesdays and Fridays. Trash and recycling should be put out between 5:00 PM the night before and 7:00 AM on pick-up day. Trash and recycling must be contained in plastic trash bags (clear bag for recycling) as described at https://www.boston.gov/trash-and-recycling-guide. Failure to dispose of trash in the approved manner can result in a ticket and fine for the household. It is illegal to dispose of household trash in on-street trash cans and compactors, and violators can be fined.

    Volunteering Opportunities

Pine Street Inn is looking for volunteers for a multitude of positions. Find descriptions of positions at pinestreetinn.org/volunteer_opportunities.php or by calling (617)892-9186.

Haley House is also looking for volunteers, especially those that can make breakfast, or lunch/dinner throughout the week and on Sundays. They're also looking for volunteers who can help out in their administrative offices by doing data entry, making signs and more. Find out more about these opportunities and download a volunteer application at haleyhouse.org/volunteer, or by calling their Volunteer Coordinator at (617)236-8132.

The William E. Carter School is always looking for volunteers. The Carter school serves students with severe developmental disabilities, and each week they head to the pool to wade, use their limbs, loosen up and relax. Volunteers, who would be screened, would be in the water with students, helping them make movements with their arms and legs. To get more information, call the Carter School at (617)635-9832.
